Our History
Lockton Insurance was founded in 1966 by
Jack Lockton (1942-2004)
in
Kansas City. Jack’s entrepreneurial spirit attracted clients and talented insurance professionals, transforming Lockton Insurance into Lockton, Inc., the world's largest privately owned independent insurance
brokerage firm.
For the first ten years, Lockton was dedicated to the construction industry.
In fact, Jack Lockton started his career as an underwriter for a surety
bond company before he started his insurance brokerage firm. Our company
developed its core values and philosophies by focusing on the construction
industry, a business that values partnerships, innovation, a sense of
urgency, and strong loss prevention and claims management services.
In 2006, Lockton expanded globally with acquisition of Alexander Forbes
International Risk Services, now called Lockton International. Today, more than 1,600 associates based in Europe, Asia, and Latin America serve clients around the world.
Lockton’s success flows from its commitment "to provide the most uncommon
results and service in a most common business." While we have experienced
remarkable growth, our flat organizational model and short lines of
communication remain. David Lockton, our Chairman, and the leaders of
our operating companies have day-to-day responsibilities regarding client
relationships and new business opportunities. They bring a strong sense
of our clients’ needs to the decisions made regarding the operation and
future of our company.
